Malnutrition and protein deficiency in diets necessitated the increase search for alternative staples towards providing important food nutrient. Growth, Yield and Nutritional Composition of two Edible Mushroom (Pleorutus sajor-caju and Pleorutus ostreatus) as influenced by Different Agro-wastes was investigated. The substrates include sawdust, rice husk and a combination of sawdust and rice husk. The experimental setup involved a completely randomized block design with 3 treatments and replicate 3 times. The substrates were sterilized to remove microbial contaminants before inoculation of the spawns and later kept in a controlled environment to allow for the development of fruiting bodies. The results revealed that growth, yield and nutritional composition of Pleorutus sajor-caju and Pleorutus ostreatus were substrate dependent. Pin head formation and maturity period were achieved faster for Pleorutus sajor-caju cultivated on sawdust as compared to Pleorutus ostreatus on the other substrate media. Cap length, pileus length and biomass of the substrates were better enhanced under the sawdust substrate for Pleorutus sajor-caju. The nutritional composition revealed that highest protein (52%) and carbohydrate content (30%) were observed in the sawdust for Pleorutus ostreatus and Pleorutus sajor-caju respectively. Growth (flushes) and nutritional content of the edible mushroom is better enhanced under sawdust than in other substrates.
