Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effects of Mangifera indica leaves extract on the reproductive performance of male Clarias gariepinus brooodstock. 45 male Clarias gariepinus (mean weight 451.64±2.47) were purchased for the experiment. Five isonitrogenous 40% crude protein diets were formulated with the inclusion levels of 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 (g/100g feed) Mangifera indica leaves extract respectively. The experiment was carried out in triplicates for 56 days and the broodstocks were fed at 3% body weight twice per day. Fish fed experimental diets recorded improvement in the milt quality of Clarias gariepinusfed compared to the control. Significant differences (p<0.05) were observed in the milt count, motility duration, % motility, % hatchability, % survival of Clarias gariepinus larvae and testicular histology of the fish.
