Sustainable land use (SLU) is critical for maintaining agricultural productivity, conserving natural resources, and ensuring long-term environmental resilience. This study assessed factors influencing the adoption of sustainable land use practices among rural farming households in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. Primary data were collected from 150 respondents through a structured questionnaire using a two-stage sampling procedure. Descriptive statistics and Poisson regression analysis were employed to analyze the data collected. The findings revealed that crop rotation (73.3%), mulching (63.3%), and cover cropping (56.7%) were the most commonly practiced SLU techniques. The Poisson regression model showed that age (p= 0.031), education (p = 0.004), household size (p = 0.023), farm size (p = 0.032), access to credit (p = 0.012), access to extension services (p = 0.009), and awareness (p = 0.005) significantly influenced the intensity of SLU adoption. The model recorded a Pseudo R2 of 0.72 and a likelihood ratio chi-square (LR χ2) of 78.63 (p < 0.01), indicating good model fit. The findings suggest that socioeconomic and institutional factors play pivotal roles in enhancing sustainable land management among rural farmers. The study recommends strengthening agricultural extension services, improving access to credit, and intensifying awareness and educational programs to enhance farmers’ capacity for sustainable land management. Promoting these factors will foster environmental conservation, improve agricultural productivity, and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to zero hunger, climate action, and life on land..
