This research reported the repellant and detoxifying enzymes activities of anisaldehyde (an essential oil of Clausena anisum-olens) against adults S. oryzae at 28 laboratory conditions. Activities of enzymes such as GST and GR, the concentration of GSH and LPO, and protein band on the extract were reported vividly. The adult S. oryzae were exposed to 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50µl of the compound dosages of 2% concentration and were homogenized separately, the untreated rice (Oryza sativa) served as control. The result obtained showed that all the dosages achieved above 90% repellant at 36h of exposure and significantly different (p < 0.05) from the negative control. The activities of GST decreased with an increase in the dosage of the compound, while the activities of the GR increased with increase in the dosage of the compound but reduced at higher dosages. The concentration of GSH and lipid peroxidation (LPO) decreased with an increase in the dosage of the compound. The highest LPO (8.63 μM MDA/mg) protein was recorded in the control. while the highest GSH (17.12 μmol/min/ml) was also recorded in the control. In the protein band, the electrophorectogram of crude protein extract analysis shows that the concentration of the insect protein increased with an increase in the dosage of Anisaldehyde A1 to A6 when compared with the standard. Anisaldehyde compound can be used as an alternative to synthetic pesticides against S. oryzae and other stored produce grains.
