Abstract

This study examined the determinant of improved bee hive technologies adoption in Benue State. Three stage sampling techniques were used to select 212 beekeepers; primary data were obtained from the respondent with the aid of a structured questionnaire. Data were analysed sing descriptive statistics and binary logit. The result of the findings indicated that beekeeping experience (0.866), household size (0.7903) and extension contact (0.5082) had inverse relationship with adoption of improved bee hives while membership of cooperative (3.5163) had direct relationship with adoption of improved bee hives. Also, the constraint faced by beekeepers in the study areas were indiscriminate bush burning, theft, lack of beekeeping skills, high cost beekeeping materials, absconding of bees, fear of sting and indiscriminate application of agro-chemicals. The study recommended that beekeepers should do fire trace round their farm during the onset of dry season to avoid incessant bush burning. Also, effort should be geared toward providing extension services to beekeepers.
